River Delph Access update 11/12/2017

We are pleased to be able to announce that we now have access to the rivers as outlined in the notice received from the EA and the contractors working on the barrier bank.

"Good afternoon

Now that we have finished work for the winter, the Environment Agency’s usual winter management procedures will apply until we return to site next year. This involves monitoring water levels and carrying out site inspections.

In addition, members of the project team will undertake a monthly walkover inspection of the banks where we have worked this summer.

The public footpath closures along the MLBB have now been lifted and will remain open until works starts next summer. There is a section of 'worked on' bank between Welmore Lake Sluice and Welney which will remain cordoned off.

If you have any concerns regarding the bank during the winter months you can contact me during office hours, or call the Environment Agency customer services on 03708 506 506, email

In an emergency, please call the Environment Agency’s 24-hour incident hotline on 0800 80 70 60.Kind Regards

Bank closure latest update 11/07/2017

It has been confirmed today that we as an angling club will indeed lose access to both river banks accessed from the Barrier Bank running from Welney Bridge to Welmore Sluice from Monday 17th July until Tuesday 31st October .
This will mean that there will be No Fishing on the River Delph and no fishing from Welney bridge toward Salters Lode on the far bank of the Old Bedford River
Because the Contract for the bank raising was only awarded a couple of weeks ago it was not possible to inform clubs prior to the new season starting.
Access to the Low Bank ( Welney Home Bank) will still be available in both directions which leaves a little over 4 miles of the Old Bedford River still available.
Whilst this is far from an ideal situation, the club would request that all anglers take note of the restricted access and obey the instructions which will be posted by the contractors or by the EA.
Any member with particular concerns as a result of this closure please speak to myself or Shaun and we will try to resolve your concerns where possible.
Apologies for the short notice but we have tried to react to events as they have been relayed to ourselves.

Our club is based in and around the village of Welney, on the borders of Norfolk and Cambridgeshire [see map].

Welcome to Welney. [The often flooded Wash Road]
